Multicolored Tanager
Just one of dozens of tanager species we may see on the trip. This beauty is a Colombian endemic.
Colombia has recorded more species of birds than any other country in the world. At 1,955 species, that’s nearly 20% of the world’s birds! Couple that with beautiful landscapes, friendly, welcoming people, and great food, and you have a birder’s paradise. Our trip will include two of the most diverse regions of this huge country - a portion of the Amazon Basin around the town of Mitú and both slopes of the western Cordillera of the Andes near Cali. We’ll also dip into the Pacific lowlands in search of endemic species of the Choco bioregion.
The birds we may see boggle the mind - both Andean and Guianan Cock-of-the-Rock, Paradise Jacamar, Pavonine Quetzal, Amazonian Umbrellabird, Black-tipped Cotinga, White-plumed Antbird, Paradise and Multicolored Tanagers and so many more.
